Week 03

Symbiosis is defined as any type of biological interaction between two different organisms. A symbiosis between a digital being and humans. It’s an organism controlled by data / a data organism. Its about modern connection, which is largely tied to devices and not actual human interaction.

Or an organism attracted to biological data / seeking connection. A "social fetus" that represents how we're currently deprived of actual human interaction. Studies show that we're getting more and more isolated.

Pulling a silicon model submerged in water. Unfortunately it pulls the entire object and not just the area that is directly around the string. Maybe i should try to make a model with small knobs that could be pulled instead? Alternatively it just needs to be secured better? Or smaller objects inside to give it more pointy distortion.

Also used pretty thick strings here which doesn't look that good. Thought maybe it was necessary to increase the durability.

Week 02 - proposal

Telekinesis. With this project i want to experiment with the concept of attraction and gravitation. The ability to influence objects and interfaces without directly touching / interacting with them. Hopefully i can create some overlap between this class and my thesis project, try to experiment with different sources of input.

With the previous experiment i did. I didn't use any source of data. I want the want object to seek connection and attention by reaching out / connecting with the viewer (or a device?).

The sensor is part of the story. Different sensors tell different stories, in a way the sensors are the objects eyes.

Pick up radio frequencies / electromagnetic waves. With this the project becomes more about visualising how modern human connection has lost its human aspect is more so about devices connected to other devices. However, i am not sure how clear this will be to visualise. I will need to explain that it is attracted EMF signals, e.g. such as mobile phones.

Heat sensor. Adds some humanity to it. The being / object seeks life. More of a paternal connection.

An ultrasonic sensor looks for proximity. Pro with this is that I can use the distance from the sensor as a data source, however this is possible with a heat sensor.

Week 01

Telepresent time could be about objects that allows us to experience either the past or the future, e.g. relics, time capsules, Stone carvings etc. Objects that capture a little piece of time, they give a glimpse into the past. Pictures allow for this effect but to a lesser degree or photogrammetry which gives us a way to explore a specific point in time in three dimensions.

Alternatively it could be about being in the past, present and future all at once (prescience). We are currently blind to time, in a way that we can only “see” our current presence and we’re dependent on objects / history to “visit” the past. If time was non - linear we wouldn’t be bound by a timeline anymore.

For example the Space Guild Navigators in Dune that can see paths through time. Or for example visualising different moments in time simultaneously.

Alternatively maybe it can be to have access to memories of people in the past, e.g. The water of life from Dune -> access to all the memories of past ancestors, e.g. maybe it could be about seeing through the eyes of another person, a shared vision.

As for looking into the future, it is more-so about being able to see the influence of actions / events, than a perfect simulation of for example a week / year into the future. Korean Saju, fortune telling to determine our life path?

Explore ways to capture and visualize time, that are not movies. A non - linear movie.
